The Overtones singer Timmy Matley has sadly passed away at the age of just 36.

The sad news was confirmed today by his heartbroken bandmates who wrote, 'It is with the greatest sadness that we have to announce that our dear friend and brother Timmy has passed away. We know this news will be as heartbreaking for you all as it is for us. We appreciate your love and support at this difficult time. Mike, Darren, Mark & Lachie x'.

Many fans and fellow stars were quick to pay their tributes to Timmy, including This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield and former star of The X Factor Sam Bailey.

Timmy was diagnosed with stage three malignant melanoma, which is the most aggressive form of skin cancer, back in 2016. However, at the time of publication, the cause of his death has not yet been confirmed.

The singer was due to perform a skydive for charity next month, in order to raise money for the hospital where he had been receiving treatment for his cancer. Timmy had already raised an impressive total of £6000 on his JustGiving page.

Timmy was last photographed with the rest of the band last month as they recorded songs for their brand new album. A photo of all five members of the group was posted in a recording studio with the caption, 'Studio vibes. Can’t wait for you to hear all the new tracks! Any guesses??? 🤔 #theovertones #studio #album #recording #vocalharmony'. [sic

The Overtones have enjoyed massive success since they were discovered by a Warner Bros. Records' talent scout while working as decorators in a shop near Oxford Street.

Their debut album 'Good Ol' Fashioned Love' was a massive success with fans and sold in excess of 500,000 copies.

The group's last performance together came in March when they performed on Jane McDonald And Friends.

Our thoughts are with Timmy's loved ones at this sad time.
