Henry Cavill may have broken a few hearts with his turn playing Clark Kent AKA Superman in the recent remakes, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, taking over the role from the beloved Christopher Reeve. However, he's now set his heart on playing yet another legendary cinematic character.

Henry, who recently starred in the new Mission: Impossible film Fallout as a CIA assassin alongside Tom Cruise and Rebecca Ferguson, has expressed his desire to play the one and only James Bond.

Speaking to Yahoo UK, Henry revealed that playing assassin August Walker in the film, which has been released in UK cinemas today (25th July), has given him invaluable experience that he hopes could help him secure the role.

He said, "I would love to do it of course. I think Bond would be a really fun role. It’s British, it’s cool. I think that now that I have my Mission: Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well. Not to say they weren’t doing real stunts, I’m just saying it would be fun for me to actually take what I’ve learnt on this and carry it through to a movie like Bond.

"I’d love to play a Brit. I don’t get to play a Brit very often. So yes, I would love the opportunity and if they were to ask I would say yes."

However, this could be 35-year-old Henry's time to shine, as he previously auditioned for the role of Bond as a 22-year-old in 2005 when they were auditioning for the new actor for Casino Royale, which was released in 2006 and was the first Bond film to star Daniel Craig, who has held the role since then.

Director Martin Campbell who helmed Casino, once said that although he felt Henry had been too young at the time, he could be perfect in years to come.

He once said, "Perhaps Henry Cavill was too young for it then, he was 22 at the time we auditioned for Casino Royale, but maybe he could still be James Bond in the future. After all, Pierce Brosnan did a great screen test only to eventually get the part years later."

This isn't the first time that Henry has expressed an interest in the role, previously telling Empire magazine, "I know the idea of playing Bond is one that really tickles me. I think that would be enormous fun. It all depends on who the people at the top want. Hopefully I'm at least on their list."
