Following the exciting news that the Netflix series Heartstopper has been renewed for not one, but two new series, star of the show Kit Connor (who plays Nick Nelson), has opened up about how he hopes Nick and Charlie Spring's relationship will develop.

When asked about what we could expect from the second series, Kit revealed to the Radio Times Podcast at the BFI & Radio Times TV Festival: "I have absolutely no clue. I put all my into Alice (Oseman)."

However he went on to express his hopes for his character, and his relationship with Charlie, saying: "But in terms of, I suppose what I'd like to see for Nick, I think just the strengthening Nick and Charlie's relationship.

"In season one, we very much see the young love and the beginnings of their relationship. And I think that it would be lovely, you know – not just to act – also just to see, as well, their relationship just, sort of, get stronger and blossom."

The actor, whose previous work includes the Elton John biopic, Rocketman, went on to speak about the public's reaction to the series saying: "I mean, I think that it's pretty incredible, really, to be able to do a show like Heartstopper at the age of 17. It's more than seeing some of the reactions that it's had to seeing some of the sorts of effects that it's had on people's lives has been, you know, more than touching, it's been pretty emotional, to be honest.

"So, you know, seeing different things like people using scene to come out to their parents is just, like, unbelievable."

Adding: "There's never enough queer people being genuinely happy on screen. It's so important that we are doing that."

We caught up with Kit Connor and his co-star Joe Locke who plays Charlie, in April, where Kit revealed why his character Nick Nelson is extremely special to him. Joe also did a great impression of that Jennifer Coolidge meme, later admitting he would love to have her cast in the second series as his grandma.

The success of Heartstopper has also seen Yasmin Finney, who plays Elle Argent cast for Doctor Who's 60th anniversary special.

Heartstopper was renewed for two more series, with the announcement being made on social media with a time lapse video of illustrator Alice Oseman drawing a scene between Nick and Charlie.
