A Dorset bus company has been forced to cancel a number of its services twice in recent days, after ‘youths’ launched rocks at vehicles.

A large group of young people were seen throwing missiles at the number 8 bus through Turlin Moor and using a catapult to smash the windows of the bus stop.

Morebus informed residents via their social media channels:

“The 8's and 9's will not be serving Turlin Moor for the rest of the evening.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused but we cannot put our drivers and passengers in danger.

“Fortunately, the vehicle’s windows remained intact. We contacted police immediately and we understand a catapult was recovered at the scene.”

A local resident told us:

“Turlin Moor is a beautiful place to live but unfortunately, it’s being destroyed by very badly behaved youngsters.

“The youth here are creating a lot of problems and I fear that summer is going to be even worse.”

Last year, a similar incident prompted the operator’s operations manager to hit out at the ‘selfish actions’ of those involved.

Another resident we spoke to feels they’re creating chaos out of “boredom” although she did not condone their actions.

She said: “The kids here have nothing else to do, especially since the local youth club disappeared, so they start misbehaving and their parents just don’t seem to care.

“Parents should be teaching their kids that what they’re doing is not acceptable.

Services have since returned to normal and Morebus tell us they are working with police to help identify the perpetrators.

A third local we spoke to added: “When buses are cancelled because of the actions of youngsters, it’s the elderly that are most impacted. They could be stuck in the middle of town with no way back.

“You’ve got an odd few that they can’t seem to catch, that are spoiling it for everyone else.”
