'Deliberate' series of fires set off in Bristol overnight

Emergency services are treating a series of fire in Bristol overnight as deliberate - and say investigations into exactly what happened continue.

In the early hours of this morning, police and fire crews were called to the blazes, which occurred in the St Werburghs and Eastville areas.

A total of seven fires had to be put out.

A spokesperson from Avon Fire and Rescue said: "In the early hours of this morning (12/01), we were called to a number of fires in the St Werburghs/Eastville area.

"Beginning at 01:51, we attended four fires, with the last call being at 02:02.

"We attended fires on Eastgate Road, Narroways Road, Glenfrome Road and York Street.

"These fires were thought to have been caused by deliberate ignition.

"Police colleagues have been conducting enquiries in the area this morning."

A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at 2:10am by the fire service to reports of multiple fires in the St Werburghs area of Bristol.

"Officers attended to support firefighters with seven fires in Eastgate Road, York Street, Narroways Road and Glenfrome Road, which are being treated as linked and as arson.

"Four of the fires were in bins, one was at an electricity substation and two involved vehicles.

"Officers have been conducting enquiries in the area this morning."
