The English National Surfing Championships, which were due to take place in Cornwall this weekend, have been postponed.

Surfing England say it's due to "unfavourable wave conditions".

The event at Watergate Bay is now due to take place from the 17th to the 19th of May instead.

The decision to postpone the Championships was made after "careful consideration", according to Surfing England.

Organisers say they feel the current wave forecast doesn't meet the "necessary standards required" for a fair and competitive surfing competition.

Surfing England say they're "fully committed" to delivering an "exceptional event": "We appreciate the understanding and patience of everyone involved.

"The 2024 Caravan and Motorhome Club English National Surfing Championships contest is all about searching the country for the best surfers in their respective divisions, and we have a full three days of competitive surfing action to fulfil.

"By postponing the contest, we really hope to see favourable conditions on the 17th – 19th May, to enable a fun weekend on the beach for all competing surfers."
