Firefighters tackle blaze involving double decker bus on A30

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze involving a double decker bus on the A30 in Cornwall.

Emergency services were called to the westbound carriageway at Temple, Bodmin at 9.05am this morning (Monday 22nd April).

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service say the bus wasn't carrying any passengers and the driver escaped uninjured.

The road was shut westbound between the A395, Launceston and the A389, Bodmin, but it has since reopened.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two appliances from Bodmin Fire Station and the Water Carrier from Liskeard were mobilised to this incident.

"The incident involved a double decker bus that was well alight but was not carrying any passengers and the driver escaped uninjured.

"Firefighters used two hosereel jets and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. The crew continued to damp down and check the interior of the bus for fire spread by removing some of the seating.

"This has now been completed and the incident has been handed over."

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at 9.05am today, 22 April, to a double-decker bus on fire on the A30 westbound at Temple, Bodmin. The fire service is also on scene.

"The A30 westbound was closed due to the fire and associated large fuel spillage. One lane was reopened at 10.20am.

"No reported injuries at this time."
