Warwickshire have this morning (April 4th) confirmed a man from London has been arrested after a bomb threat forced a 100 metre cordon to be put up in Nuneaton.

The incident happened yesterday (May 3rd) at around 2:30pm following the discovery of a suspicious package in a shop on Queens Road.

After this, the cordon was put up in the town centre, as the bomb squad assessed and dealt with the package.

This was then found by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to not have been an explosive - and so the cordon was lifted at about 6pm.

It has now been confirmed a 40-year-old person from London has been arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat - and remain in custody.

Police have thanked the local community as they dealt with the incident.

In a statement on social media, officers said: "The police cordon has now been reduced in Queen’s Road, Nuneaton following the discovery of a suspicious package.

"A smaller cordon remains in place around the shop where the discovery was made at the junction with Stratford Street.

"Following enquiries we can confirm the package posed no risk to the public. Police will remain in the area for some time.

Thank you for your patience while we deal with this incident."
