Detectives are continuing to investigate a reported stabbing in Leicester which happened late last night.

Police received a call at 9.36pm yesterday of a report that a male had been stabbed.

Officers immediately arrived at the scene to find a 16-year-old youth had sustained a stab wound.

He was taken to hospital where he remains receiving treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A scene preservation remains in place at the location as enquiries are being conducted.

Reassurance patrols were conducted overnight and will continue over the coming days.

Detective Inspector Mike Chandler, from the force’s Complex Investigation team, said: “Our investigation remains at early stage while we will continue to piece together how this young man came to sustain his injury.

“From our enquiries carried out so far, we believe that the victim was involved in an altercation with a group of youths in Sawley Street near to the junction with Evington Road.

“Thankfully, local officers already on patrol were able to get to the scene within in minutes and apply immediate first aid to the victim.

“I would like to appeal to anyone may have been in the immediate at around this time last night and may have seen something related to this incident to please contact us.

“Were you driving along Sawley Street and have a dash cam which may have captured something related? Do you live on Sawley Street and have CCTV which may be of benefit to the investigation?

“We know that a large crowd had gathered at the scene so there is someone who hopefully may have information about what happened.

“If so, please urgently get in touch with us.

“Please be assured that this incident will be thoroughly investigated, and my team are actively following all lines of enquiry to identify and arrest those involved.

“Local officers will remain in the area over the coming days and are available to address any concerns you may have.”
