Love Island’s Chris Hughes has been forced to defend his Mother's Day post praising his ex-girlfriend Olivia Attwood. The reality TV star, who shares a fake baby doll Cash Hughes with his ex-girlfriend, wished Olivia a 'Happy Mothers Day'.

Since the show finished Cash has continued to be a prominent part of their lives as documented in the new series Chris and Olivia: Crackin’ On.

Despite not being together anymore Chris took to Instagram to celebrate Mother's Day over the weekend. He posted four photos of the former couple with their pretend son, Cash, captioning the photos, 'Happy Mothers Day Olivia; keep smiling Doll, never let that tiara slip.'

However, many of the comments that came flooding in on social media weren't complimentary to the post, with some saying, 'The cringe is unreal', with other criticising Chris saying their recent split was 'fake' and a 'publicity stunt'.

Following these comments Chris has now been forced to respond saying, 'Listen, we aren’t together, but I still support her like I would have before,' he wrote in the comments section accompanying his latest post.

'If things change, things change. Time will tell. There’s no malice or hate, that doesn’t always have to happen when people split, you know. We had a rollercoaster ride, and she deserves recognition.'

This post comes in the week after the first episode of Chris and Olivia: Crackin’ On aired on TV. The new show documents Chris and Olivia's life since they left the Love Island villa last year, and fans were quick to notice baby Cash Hughes was still in the picture.

Not only did he have the best seat in the house, Chris even strapped Cash into his van as the pair moved house...

And it seems Chris isn't the only person in his family fond of the fake child. As the couple invited their families over to see their amazing new house, Chris's dad was carrying round Cash as if it was his actual grandchild!

Although the couple have now separated Chris appeared on Lorraine ahead of the first episode and admitted that they are still very much "obsessed with each other".

Chris continued, "I think it was just a breakdown in numerous different things. During the last few months of our relationship, we kind of just lost a genuine respect for each other."

He later added, "We tried breaks, and it didn't really work for us."

In completely brand new information - Marcel was in the 90's band Blazin Squad. WE KNOW RIGHT. He's so modest about that sort of thing.
