Lovable TV presenter Dec Donnelly and his wife Ali Astall have become parents for the first time, welcoming a little girl into the world. Dec wrote on Instagram, 'Ali and I are thrilled to announce the arrival of our baby girl, Isla Elizabeth Anne, who was born just after 9 o'clock this morning. Mother and daughter both doing well, Dad is head over heels! D x'

The new arrival is the couple's first child together, after they tied the knot in a private ceremony in Newcastle back in 2015.

Dec and Ali first announced they were expecting their first child back in March 2018, earlier than they wanted to due to the news being leaked to the press.

Taking to his Instagram page which he shares with his on-screen partner Ant McPartlin, Dec wrote, 'Just wanted to say thank you for all the lovely messages. The news has sneaked out a little earlier than we had hoped but Ali and I are delighted to be expecting our first child. Thanks for all the love, we really appreciate it ❤️ D x'. sic

Dec's happy news comes just weeks after it was revealed that Ant McPartlin will be taking an extended break from his TV duties, and therefore won't be joining Dec on this year's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

A statement released on his behalf read, "Ant McPartlin today announces he will continue to take a break from all television presenting roles until 2019. Ant will not present ‘I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!’ in November this year."

The statement also confirmed that Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway will NOT be returning for a brand new series in 2019, to allow Ant some time off to focus on his health. It continued, "In addition Ant and Dec have made the joint decision not to present a new series of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway in Spring 2019."

Despite this, it's understood that Dec will head over to Australia to host the popular show when it returns in November, with the likes of Scarlett Moffatt, Stephen Mulhern and Holly Willoughby all favourites to replace Ant.

Congratulations to Dec and Ali on the birth of their first child! 👶
