Kate Wright pays sweet tribute to Rio Ferdinand's late wife Rebecca on Mother's Day

Rio Ferdinand's fiancée Kate Wright has paid an adorable tribute to his late wife Rebecca Ellison, who tragically died in 2015, leaving Rio and their three children behind.
Kate, who is now step-mum to Rio's children, Lorenz, Tate and Tia, shared a photo of a Mother's Day card which included a picture of herself, Rebecca and the children's grandparents. Alongside the photo, Kate wrote, 'Lovely Mother’s Day dinner with family, we celebrated all 6 of us today 💗 how lucky we all are to have hearts that can love after so much pain. Happy Mother’s Day to everyone💗'. sic
Fans of the former TOWIE star were quick to gush over the cute card, with many commenting what a 'lovely idea' it was.
One user wrote, '❤️Amazing what a wonderful thoughtful beautiful idea❤️You are the best in every way❤️Rio and the children are very lucky to have you❤️'. sic
Another added, 'Love this ✨so thoughtful 💕', with a third writing, 'Not only to step up and be a role model u have kept there mums memory alive. U have a heart ov gold @xkatiewright and im sure @rioferdy5 counts his blessing to have found a woman that loves his kids as they were her own 💕 xx'. sic
Rio, who proposed to Kate in November last year, also posted a cute photo on his own Instagram page, thanking Kate for everything she does for his children.
Sharing a candid snap of Kate and the children on a walk, the former England footballer wrote, 'Thank you for all you do for the little munchkins. From keeping their mums memory alive, to constantly putting smiles on their faces. Love u ❤️', sic
Rio tragically lost his wife Rebecca at the age of only 34 back in May 2015, when she lost her battle with breast cancer. After her death, Rio admitted Rebecca's dying wish was for him to be happy and find love again, as she didn't want him 'alone and miserable'.
After Kate decided to quit showbiz, Rio proposed to the former reality star during a trip to Abu Dhabi last year, with his three children by his side.

To mark the end of 2017, Rio shared a post dedicated to Kate. Below the cute throwback snap he wrote, "To say 2017 has been a tough year would be a huge understatement. Some dark moments but brightness has been spread around me and mine by this one in many different forms. Christmas being just 1 example, all the thoughtful little details that make things that much better for all of us 😘 little throwback pic."

Kate revealed, "At the beginning, I could never imagine the kids would talk about the future with me. When I'd pick them up from school they'd say I was an aunt, then it turned to their dad's girlfriend and now they say I'm their step-mum.
"On a daily basis, they'll ask 'when are you giving us a baby brother or sister?' I have to say 'not yet'. They'll say 'when do you want to get married, we want to be bridesmaids'."

Rio picked up the award for best documentary at the ceremony following his touching documentary Rio Ferdinand: Being Mum and Dad, which focussed on dealing with grief and raising his three children after his wife died in 2015.
He said, "I'm just pleased to say that this documentary has played a part in propelling me forward into a period of happiness in my life now where my kids are very happy. I've got a beautiful girlfriend now and we are making steps in the right direction."

She wrote, "My baby won a bafta!!! Overwhelmed with emotion for you... Feels strange to be happy through winning something through sadness, but I'm so happy for you, for raising awareness and helping others. November 2018: Rio and Kate got ENGAGED!

After Kate posted a holiday snap taken by step-daughter Tia in July 2020, her fans became convinced she was having a little girl! Due to an old wives tale, Kate followers think she could be having a girl, because of where her bump is sitting. One wrote in the comments, 'Looks like u r having a girl💗💗💗,' as another added, 'You definitely have a girl bump! Enjoy every moment x.'
