Gabby ended the relationship earlier this month

Just as we started preparing ourselves for a summer of drama when Love Island returns to ITV2 next month, last year's stars Marcel Somerville and Gabby Allen announced their split after Marcel cheated on the Liverpudlian whilst they were on holiday together.

Now, just a few weeks after Gabby dumped the former Blazin' Squad member, Marcel has broken his silence as he walked the red carpet at the TV BAFTA Awards last night.

Speaking to the Daily Star ahead of the prestigious awards show, Marcel said, "I’ve spent so much time with Gabs over the past 10 months. All of the special things we have done together...it feels like she should be here with me now but I’m here by myself.

"In my head I’m not even close to thinking about going after someone else at all."

Marcel's words come after his representative released a statement on his behalf last week. He said, "Sadly the rumours are true, Gabby and Marcel have split up. Marcel can't really defend his actions as he knows he did wrong and will regret it forever."

He then continued, "Marcel is upset that he broke the heart of someone he loves and someone that he shared so many special moments with, but with all the good times there are difficult times, and sadly Marcel and Gabby had been in a bad place at this stage.

"Gabby was a special part of Marcel's life, and he hopes one day she can find it in herself to forgive him. He knows what he did was wrong and is extremely sad about how he has hurt Gabby."

See all of the phrases that best sum up Love Island 2017:

"100 my type on paper"

Used by eventual winner Amber Davies almost every episode! We think she's got a 'type'.

But despite walking the red carpet alone at last night's TV BAFTAs, it wasn't all bad news for Marcel.

For the first time in history, Love Island picked up a BAFTA award for Reality and constructed factual, beating the likes of Celebrity Hunted, Old People’s Home For Four-Year Olds and The Real Full Monty.
