Sam Smith has taken to Instagram Stories to reveal that he has had to undergo eye surgery, leaving him wearing a 'pirate patch'. The 'Promises' singer posted a series of photos, from before and after his surgery, telling his fans, 'So. I'm getting it operated on in 20 minutes. I'm f---ing scared and also super hyped that I get to wear this pirate patch.'

He continued, 'I'm being super dramatic. It's like a 15 minute Operation lol.' sic The pop star then posted on Instagram a photo showing off his 'pirate patch' across his right eye captioning the photo, 'Stye with me', a play on the title of his 2014 single 'Stay With Me'.

Fans have been quick to sympathise with the singer leaving comments such as, 'What? How? 😮', 'Best efforts in recovery' and 'Sorry and praying'.

However, it seems that not everyone sympathised with Sam, with Ryan Tedder seeing the funny side! The OneRepublic singer posted a screen grab of Sam's post saying, 'Best post on the Internet 2019', which Sam has now reposted as a Story!
