Victoria Beckham "What I wish I’d known"

She wrote to her teenage self.

Victoria Beckham is internationally known as a singer, fashion designer, model and wife of David Beckham, but it wasn't always that way.

In the most recent issue of Vogue magazine the fashion icon writes a candid letter to her teenage self. She explains how she suffered the insecurities that many teenagers feel, she didn't fit in with her peers.

Her wealthy parents would pick her up from her secondary school in their Rolls-Royce and at her arts college she struggled, "You are not the prettiest, or the thinnest, or the best at dancing," her letter says.

She didn't fit into the mould, "I didn’t have long legs, blonde hair and natural acting ability." she continues.

For years she was bullied and was rejected from many modelling jobs, but at the age of 20 she joined Touch, the group that eventually became the Spice Girls.

She 'warns' the teenage Victoria Adams of what lies ahead. Three decades of wearing high heels (and as a result bunions), wearing ridiculous clothes which some she describes as looking like a drag queen!

"But I look back at you and smile. It will add interest to your life to go from one extreme to another. I love the fact that you will feel free to express yourself."

She goes on to say "learn more about the offside rule", referring to when she first met her future husband David Beckham at a charity football match she had attended with footy mad bandmate Mel C.

"Love at first sight does exist. It will happen to you in the Manchester United players’ lounge."

At the time they met, David Beckham wasn't in the first team and Victoria was the famous one. He asked for her number and wrote it on the back of a plane ticket from London to Manchester which he still has.

Two years after meeting they announced their engagement and had a £1 million ceremony in a castle.

Seventeen years down the line and despite a few ups and downs at the age of 42 Victoria and David have four children (three pictured below) and Victoria has become a style icon despite a few interesting wardrobe choices along the way.
