Hamilton the musical is coming to Disney+ one year early 🙌

While loads of TV shows and films have been postponed due to lockdown restrictions, we have some good news: Hamilton is coming to Disney+ way sooner than expected to cheer us all up.

The incredible 11-time-Tony Award, GRAMMY Award, Olivier Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical will be hitting the streaming service on 3rd July, a whole year before it was scheduled to drop. Yes!

The production was filmed at The Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June of 2016, and will feature the original cast, including Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler and Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr.

The show tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, using music that draws heavily from hip-hop, R&B, pop, soul and traditional show tunes; the show also incorporates colour-conscious casting of non-white actors as the Founding Fathers and other historical figures.

"I’m so proud of how beautifully Tommy Kail the director has brought Hamilton to the screen. He’s given everyone who watches this film the best seat in the house," said Lin-Manuel Miranda.

"I’m so grateful to Disney and Disney+ for reimagining and moving up our release to July 4 weekend of this year, in light of the world turning upside down. I’m so grateful to all the fans who asked for this, and I’m so glad that we’re able to make it happen. I’m so proud of this show. I can’t wait for you to see it."
