Bebe Rexha unveils brand new single for Maleficent 2 soundtrack

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha has unveiled her new single, “You Can’t Stop The Girl”, which is the featured song for Disney’s upcoming live-action film “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.”

The new film, which stars Angelina Jolie playing the lead character and classic Disney villain, is the sequel to the 2014 global box office hit.

The film follows Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora, who are beginning to question their complex family ties. However, they soon get pulled in different directions, which creates 'unexpected allies and dark news forces'.

Picking up from the first film, Aurora is set to marry Prince Phillip, causing for celebration in the kingdom of Ulstead and the neighboring Moors. Yet, when an unexpected encounter introduces a powerful new alliance, Maleficent and Aurora are pulled apart to opposing sides in a Great War, testing their loyalties and causing them to question whether they can truly be family.

“You Can’t Stop The Girl” is co-written by Bebe and follows the fan exclusive “Not 20 Anymore,” which she dropped on her 30th birthday on August 30th this year.

Tweeting the exciting news to her Twitter followers, Bebe said, '#YouCantStopTheGirl from #Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is out now! I hope this song gives a little extra courage to any girl that needs it'.

And fans have been quick to praise the songwriter for her lyrics, with one user tweeting, 'i got goosebumps & couldn’t stop crying while listening to this song. it is SO beautiful & the message behind it is truly empowering and encouraging. you are such an inspiration, i love you so much.', whilst another wrote, 'It's amasterpiece damn Bebe I really felt it. No one can take our wings away!' sic

The music video has been directed by the award-winning director Sophie Muller and is set to be released in the coming weeks.

The Disney sequel hits cinemas on 18th October.
