After 'Candy' hit the top spot yesterday

Robbie Williams says he’s “really chuffed” about scoring his 14th career number one single with ‘Candy’.

The first offshoot from the Robster’s new album ‘Take The Crown’ sold an impressive 137,000 copies to oust Labrinth and Emeli Sandé’s ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’ from the summit yesterday.

Co-penned by Gary Barlow, Robbie has now equalled his Take That band mate’s career tally of 14 UK number ones – a figure they also share with pop veteran Cliff Richard.

Speaking to the Official Charts Company, Robbie said: “Number 1 - YEAH! So chuffed, really, really happy that Candy reached the top spot.

“Good work Team Williams and thanks to everyone who got it there. I'm so excited about this album and this is a great start.”

Wiley scored the second highest new entry at no.3 with ‘Can You Hear Me (Ayayaya)’ while Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ and Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ made up the rest of the top five.

Over on the album chart, Calvin Harris clocked up his second chart-topper with his third album ‘18 Months’ edging out Kylie Minogue’s ‘The Abbey Road Sessions’.

Emeli Sandé’s ‘Our Version of Events’, ‘Fun.’s ‘Some Nights’ and Taylor Swift’s ‘Red’ finished in third, fourth and fifth spot respectively.
