Tatum Rosner McRae, known as Tate McRae, has proved that perseverance pays off as the singer, now 20-years-old, has had success across the world with her hits 'You Broke Me First', 'She's All I Wanna Be' and her song 'Exes'.

Here we take a look at how the singer who performed at the 2024 BRIT Awards, got her big break, what her biggest songs are, and what she's done other than releasing great music.

2016: So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation

At the age of just 13, Tate McRae became the first Canadian finalist on the American TV show So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation.


The programme, hosted by Cat Deeley, saw children aged eight to 13 compete to win the show.
Tate ended up in third place, mentored by American actress and dancer Kathryn McCormick (pictured left), dancing Contemporary/Ballet.

2019: 'one day' video goes viral

Back in 2019, Tate uploaded a video on YouTube which went viral. The video was for her song 'one day' and has now had more than 38 million views.
The success of this video got Tate's talent noticed and she released her debut EP a year later called 'All the Things I Never Said'.

2020: Tate McRae released 'All the Things I Never Said'

Tate released 'All the Things I Never Said', her debut EP which included 'Tear Myself Apart' which was co-written by Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O'Connell.

2020: Tate McRae included in Forbes' 30 Under 30

Forbes' 30 Under 30 included Tate in 2020, making her the youngest musician to ever be included in the list.
Forbes' 30 Under 30 is a list compiled by Forbes of the world's most successful entrepreneurs under the age of 30.

2020: Tate McRae released 'You Broke Me First'

Tate McRae released 'You Broke Me First' in 2020. It was the lead single from her second EP, 'Too Young to Be Sad'.
The song was hugely popular and an international hit for the singer, reaching Number 3 in the UK and amassing 142 million views on YouTube as well as over a million views on TikTok.

2021: Tate McRae released 'Too Young to Be Sad'

Tate's second EP, 'Too Young to Be Sad', was released in 2021 and became an immediate hit making it the most streamed female EP of 2021. The EP included six songs co-written by Tate.

2022: Tate McRae released 'she’s all i wanna be'

This alternative-pop track showcases Tate's songwriting skills as she worked for the first time with Grammy Award-winner songwriter/producer Greg Kurstin, who has also worked with Sia, Kelly Clarkson, Halsey, Maren Morris, Paul McCartney, Pink, and Lily Allen.

2022: Tate McRae releases 'chaotic' and gives debut album release date

Tate dropped her song 'chaotic' on 25th March 2022 along with a visualiser video showing her stuck on a burning plane. The fiery theme continued as she posted a photo of herself posing on a burning plane wing with the exciting announcement that her album 'I used to think I could fly' would be released on 27th May 2022.

2022: Tate McRae's UK tour

Tate McRae announced she was be going on tour and would be coming to the UK.
She started her UK Tour on 12th June 2022 in Manchester, continuing on to Birmingham, London and Glasgow. Tate was also due to join Shawn Mendes on tour as a special guest on his 'Wonder: The World Tour', but Shawn unfortunately had to cancel the tour.

2023: Tate McRae announces her second album 'Think Later'

Tate McRae announced her second album 'Think Later' will be released on 8th December 2023. The album features her current single 'Greedy' and Tate told us that the album was "vastly different. The attitude and the vibe of the album is like the complete opposite side of my personality (from) my last album, which is very exciting to play with and write. You can hear that in the songs like I definitely show a side of me, that's a bit more savage out there."

2023: Tate McRae announced her 'Think Later' world tour

In support of her second album 'Think Later', Tate has also announced a world tour starting in April 2024. The singer will perform at several venues across the UK before moving on to Europe and the rest of the world.

Tate McRae performed at The BRIT Awards 2024, where her song 'greedy' was also nominated for International Song of The Year.

When is Tate McRae on tour in the UK?

Tate has a now announced a world tour in support of her second album called 'Think Later'. Tate's 'Think Later' world tour will see her starting in Dublin on 17th April 2024, before moving onto dates across the UK and Europe.

What are Tate McRae's songs about?

Tate revealed in a red carpet interview with Billboard that she has written some songs about her biggest fears, which she was scared about releasing. "I was in a bad place mentally and I was kind of talking about my biggest fears in the song," Tate explained.

She went on to say: "It's so scary, you don't want your brother's friends hearing about your biggest fears!"

Tate McRae's debut album

Tate's debut album 'I Used To Think I Could Fly' was released on 27th May 2022, and the singer revealed in an interview with Billboard that she has written loads of songs over the previous seven months.

On 11th April 2022, Tate shared the track list for her album.

Have Tate McRae and Shawn Mendes collaborated?

Tate and Shawn have worked together on a song for Tate! When asked what the song was about, Tate said it was about heartbreak and the session involved Shawn strumming on his guitar and Tate talking about "all her issues". Although she couldn't confirm it would be released she said she hoped it would and that she really loved it.

Tate was due to support Shawn on his tour in 2023, however unfortunately Shawn cancelled his tour. The singer posted a statement on his socials saying: 'Unfortunately I have to cancel the rest of the tour dates in North America, and the UK/Europe'.

He went on to say: 'It breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I will be back as soon as I've taken the right time to heal'.
