15 facts you probably didn't know about The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead has just ended its seventh season and is still as popular as ever, so we thought we'd find some facts about the series that you probably don't know.

We've even had these facts confirmed by Fox so now you can be an expert in The Walking Dead trivia.

1) Several characters aren't in the comic, Daryl, Merle and Sasha were written for the TV series.

2) The 'human flesh' the walkers eat is often ham soaked in vinegar, although other combinations are also used.

3) For example when Dale died, his 'guts' were made out of chicken!

4) When Merle is shooting his gun from a rooftop in season one, neighbours didn't know a TV show was filming and thought it was real.

5) Early on in the series there are a couple of nods to Breaking Bad, Daryl finds a bag of blue meth and the car Glen uses in the first season.

6) Many of the actors in the series are not American, Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), David Morrissey (The Governor) and Lennie James (Morgan Jones) are British and Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene) has dual nationality, she was born in the US and moved to the UK when she was 12 years old.

7) When Jon Bernthal showed up with a beard in season three, that was because he was filming The Wolf of Wall Street and had to keep the beard!

8) In seasons one to eight of the show, the characters did not say the word “zombie” once on screen.

9) From season to season, the opening titles and the walkers, 'decompose' more and more to show elapsed time.

10) It can take anything between 15 minutes to two hours for the zombies to be made up, depending on the 'degree of walker' and the costume.

11) Walkers can make some noise when they are filming (unless there is dialogue), however additional noises are added in post production.

12) Walkers are instructed to move like they are leaving a bar at 2 AM - i.e. drunk!

13) All of the principal actors have a 'Last Supper' during the filming for their last episode. It takes eight days to shoot one episode and the 'Last Supper' will be held on one of those days.

14) Norman Reedus (Daryl) has appeared in a number of music videos over the years including Lady Gaga's 'Judas' where he plays Judas.

15) The scene where Michonne’s walker pets' have missing arms was filmed with 'green screen gloves'.
