Since the beginning of 2018, fans of the popular fantasy drama, Charmed, have been super excited at the prospect of a brand new reboot of the series, and now one of the original stars, Shannen Doherty - who played Prue Halliwell - has given her thoughts on the new series, which is set to hit the small screen later this year.

Speaking to ET, Shannen, whose character was originally killed off after three seasons, said, "I think it's great. I think it's awesome." She went on say, "I think second lives are amazing, so I'm all for it… I'm happy to see that a show, that back then was all about strong women who supported and loved each other, is now coming back again in this day and age."

"It's about female empowerment again," Shannen continued, "Not that that's something new. Charmed originally was that too. But I think it's wonderful, you know? And it's providing a lot of jobs for people, and I honestly, I just wish them well. And I hope that everyone just gives them a chance."

The new series of Charmed was announced earlier this year to much excitement with many fans speculating who could be taking over the roles of the much-loved characters, including the three Halliwell sisters, Prue, Piper and Phoebe.

At the time, show bosses confirmed the reboot with a statement which read, "This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches.

"Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy and maintaining familial bonds, a witch's work is never done."

A few weeks after announcing the reboot, the first of the three sisters was cast. In a change from the original series, the Charmed reboot will star Macy and her half-sisters, Mel and Madison Pruitt.

Variety reported back in February that Melonie Diaz, known for starring in a number of independent films, would be taking on the role of Mel, a character described as passionate and an outspoken activist who loses her way after a family tragedy.

Then, a few months later the first trailer was released which excited many fans. At the start of the trailer, the girls' mum can be heard narrating, "Always remember that you're better together, your differences are your strengths, and nothing is stronger than your sisterhood." However, things are about to change forever when the girls' mum disappears.

Charmed is expected to be shown on The CW with the US later this year, but at present there are no details on when we will get it in the UK.
