Damien Lewis has paid an emotional tribute to his late wife Helen McCrory, labelling her “perfect” during a special evening of poetry dedicated to her.

The actor opened up about losing Helen at the event that was held at the National Theatre in London, that was also attended by their children Manon, 15, and Gulliver, 14.

As well as reading the poem ‘Everything Is Going To Be Alright’ by Derek Mahon, Damien also said on stage: “This evening is dedicated to her and it's perfect, because Helen loved the National Theatre.

"One person whose thunder would absolutely not be stolen was Helen McCrory."

A video of Helen, who starred in Harry Potter and Peaky Blinders, reading poetry was also shared to the audience.

Damian took to Twitter in April 2021 to announce the heartbreaking news of Helen's death.

He wrote: 'I'm heartbroken to announce that after an heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family.

'She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we loved her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you.'

His tribute comes weeks after it was revealed that Helen’s Peaky Blinders character Polly Gray will be ‘very present’ in the upcoming series of the show.

Cillian Murphy, who plays Tommy Shelby, admitted that Helen would’ve been able to reprise her role of Polly if it hadn’t been for COVID-19 complications.

Speaking to Empire, he said: "What I always feel sad about is that we were about to shoot and then the pandemic happened and we had to stop.

"If we had shot then, Helen would've been in the show, and that makes me feel sad.'

He added: "It's a huge loss; it's hard to comprehend it. Because she was the matriarch of the whole thing. As the character, but just also as her personality. But she's still present in series 6.

"Steve has managed to keep her very, very present, which I think is a brilliant tribute to Steve and also to Helen. But we couldn't quite fathom it all as we were making it, you know?"

We definitely agree 💔.
