Believe it or not, it's now been over a year since series six of hit BBC drama Line of Duty aired, with over 14 million people across the UK glued to their TV screens to see AC-12 on the hunt for bent coppers.

As we all hold out for any official news of a seventh series, following THAT ending to series six, the popular cast have got everybody excited with their latest posts!

Adrian Dunbar (Superintendent Ted Hastings), Vicky McClure (DI Kate Fleming), Martin Compston (DS Steve Arnott) and Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio have reunited for a catch up, leading fans to think they could be discussing a potential seventh series...

Vicky uploaded the photo of the group enjoying drinks, writing: 'Mates ♥️'.

And it looks like eagle-eyed fans were quick to zoom in on the photo, in an attempt to see if any scrips were floating about on the table, alongside the bar menus.

One wrote: 'Literally zooms in immediately to see if that’s a menu or a plot outline!', with another adding: 'Looks suspiciously like a table read 👀🤣'.

A third asked: 'Does this mean we have series 7 in the works? Jed did say he wanted to finish on 7', with another optimistic fan commenting: 'Mates discussing a season 7 script perhaps??😃'.

Another wrote: 'does this mean what I think it means?'. (sic)

Although Martin Compston hinted series six could be the last, Vicky McClure gave a promising update in January this year.

Speaking to The Guardian, Vicky said: "I don't know! I don't know, there's no word of it."

"I think we've all been really honest and said should that happen, we're all game. I'll just stick with the guys. I think when it comes to a close, it will be a natural close for us all."

Creator Jed Mercurio, who also made shows like Trigger Point and Bodyguard, spoke back in March 2021, telling Radio Times: "We’re in a situation where it’s not entirely clear that there will be a seventh series. We would hope there could be. But we’re having to do our planning coming out of COVID, and a whole bunch of other things around the idea that these things aren’t guaranteed at all now.

"Since probably season four, we’ve been talking to the BBC about the realistic longevity of the series. I’ve experienced broadcasters pulling the plug while we were still developing a storyline –Bodies and Cardiac Arrest both ended prematurely on the BBC. So it’s an ongoing discussion, is all I can say. A lot of it depends on the key creatives – me and the main actors – finding new stories to tell within that universe."

Whilst we await any more news, all six series of Line of Duty are now available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.
