As part of our 'A Bitter Pill' campaign we spoke to Hilary, whose son Gary died in 2012.

Gary Bass was Hilary and Robin's only child, they all lived together at their family home in Cheshire. He worked as a Lab Technician and was described as a bit of a home bird, quite shy, but intelligent and sensible.

On the 26th May 2012 he made a mistake which cost him his life. Whilst out with friends at an Ellesmere Port nightclub he took what he thought was ecstasy but unbeknown to him it contained the much stronger substance PMA. A few hours later he started to feel unwell and collapsed. Despite desperate attempts by his friends and paramedics to save his life he died. He was 23 years old.

At his inquest it was ruled it was the PMA that killed him and a verdict of 'Death by Misadventure' was recorded.

Below is an interview with his mother Hilary.
