A man's fighting for his life after he was head-butted in Manchester city centre.

It happened outside Void nightclub on Richmond Street at about 05:50 this morning (Sunday 24th July 2016).

The victim fell to the floor, he managed to get up but lost conciousness shortly afterwards and then went into cardiac arrest.

The man responsible, who ran away, is described as an Asian man in his late 30s - early 40s, wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans and brown boots.

An investigation's underway and police are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Sergeant Phillip Marsh of GMP’s City of Manchester Team said:

“This horrific and random act of violence has left a man in critical condition in hospital.

“The motive for the attack is not clear but do we believe it was a completely unprovoked attack on an innocent man.

“I urge anyone who saw the assault or has information about who is responsible to come forward and speak to police.”
