They'll be a few Boston United fans with frayed nerves this morning after the Pilgrims made it to the National League north play off semi finals after beating Alfreton Town on penalties.

It was a vital game with both clubs looking to take a step closer to promotion.

And they appeared to cancel each other out.

At full time it ended nil nil.

But the game had to be decided on the night meaning it went to extra time.

And still there were no goals.

The only way to settle it was the dreaded penalty shootout.

It's always a bit of a lottery but it was Boston who stood up to the challenge slightly better beating Alfreton 5-4 on spot kicks.

The Pilgrims are now two wins away from promotion to the National league - just one division below the football league.

Next it promises to be a great game with plenty of local rivalry.

Boston head to Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

Both league games between the Boston United and Scunthorpe United this season ended in draws.

It's expected they'll take plenty of fans to cheer them on.

The Iron didn't have to play a quarter final game because of their second place finish in the table.

That also means they'll have home advantange.

It promises to be an exciting game with both sides giving their all to make the final.

In many ways it's a shame this wasn't the final - but whoever wins will fancy their chances of going one step further and securing a final win that would mean promotion.

And of course it means one Lincolnshire side will definitely be in that play off final.

Since they're both local teams we won't be taking sides this time - we just wish both the Iron and the Pilgrims the best of luck.

Interestingly both league games between the pair this season ended in draws.

Scunthorpe have already sold 4000 tickets - even before they knew Boston would be their opponents.

The Pigrims have an allocation of 15 hundred tickets.

You can check either club's websites for details.
