The spotlight will be shone both on and off the racecourse today as Ladies Day returns to Aintree!

The second day of the 2024 Grand National Festival will see many of the racegoers enter a competition for:

  • Best Dressed
  • Most Sustainably Dressed

The latter is being awarded for the first time.

The 2024 Style Awards are being judged by:

  • Natasha Jonas
  • Emily Sleight
  • Gemma Cutting
  • Frankie Foster
  • Amy Hart

Salons across Merseyside are opening a bit earlier today for people to get ready.

Dean Taylor, a make-up artist at Peaches and Cream in Liverpool, said:

"It's literally like Scouse Christmas! This is Scouse Christmas! You can never be too prepared but I think the build up to it is always as fun as the day itself, so we're always just raring to get stuck in.

"Helping get (people) ready and being part of that... we feel like little fairy godmothers!"

Faye Ingman, a make-up artist at Peaches and Cream in Liverpool, said:

"People do get prepared a long time beforehand - from the outfits to the beauty treatments that they get done, the spray tan, hair, the make up.

"It's a full package going to the races!"

A lot of racegoers have been preparing for months ahead of Ladies Day!

Deana Taylor, owner of Felicity Hat Hire Boutique in Liverpool, said:

"The day we opened after Christmas, the first appointment we had in was an Aintree hire and since then, it's gathered momentum and we've just got busier and busier.

"Every year the big bold colours go to Aintree and this year, in particular, we're seeing hot pink but bizarrely, it's black this year!

"We are completely sold out of black and in particular black and white. Monochrome seems to be the thing.

"Also, we've noticed a big increase in trouser suits this year. It's not all dresses!

"People are going for a power suit, the big power shoulders, they realise it's not a warm time of year so they're going sensible and match up and still look just as fabulous!"

The gates open at 10:30am.
