Scotland Yard have said they are trailing giving Ring doorbells to burglary victims to deter and help solve crimes.

They video technology is being given to Londoners who have been targeted on multiple occasions.

It follows a commitment by the Metropolitan Police to attend every burglary in the capital.

Last month officers got to 81.1 per cent of residential burglaries, compared with just 31 per cent for the same period in 2021.

On the trial, Assistant Commissioner Louisa Rolfe said: “We’ve been doing some work, a study to look a whether we can prevent crimes but also solve them using new technology.

“One of the trials that we’re undertaking, we’re looking at burglary hotspots, working with those people who have been a repeat victim and looking at issuing a Ring doorbell to see if this can prove to be a really good deterrent.”

She described promising early signs, adding: “We’re finding that it is successful and particularly if people have parcels stolen from communal areas that can be a burglary. So, we’re looking if we can solve burglaries in that way too.”

Meanwhile, a recent intensification over three weeks saw 177 offenders arrested for 297 burglary offences as part of a wider operation linked with serious and organised crime.
