A safety warning about using barbecues has been issued by Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue - with temperatures set to rise and the sun set to shine for Bank Holiday Monday (25th May).

It follows an incident where a barbecue in a garden in Hale spread to a house last week.

GMFRS firefighters from Altrincham and Wythenshawe attended a house on Lilac Road in Hale, where flames had spread inside the building.

GMFRS Head of Prevension, Area Manager Paul Fearnhead said, "This incident is a timely reminder of how easily a fire can spread.

“Barbecues are a great way to enjoy the hot weather – providing they are used safely. Please remember to always keep a bucket of water close by in case of emergencies, avoid distractions when having barbecues whether that be alcohol, children or pets and lastly always ensure that your barbecue is fully extinguished."

The brigade has advice on safe barbecuing here and they've also issued a warning for anyone visiting the moors or open water here.
