A woman who was attacked in her home during a robbery has taken a turn for the worse in hospital days after the theft which saw a callous thief rip her wedding ring from her finger.

Today, 87 year-old Eileen Blane’s sons John and David made an impassioned appeal for their mum’s wedding ring to be returned, one she’d worn every day for over 60 years, including the 13 years since her husband passed away.

Police have also issued an appeal urging anyone with information to come forward, even asking members of the criminal fraternity to contact police if they have any information, such is the heinous nature of the attack.

Eileen’s wedding ring itself is described as having little resale value but her family say its return would be invaluable and could go some way to helping her recover from her injuries which included several broken ribs.

The suspect being sought by police is described as white, 5 foot 8 inches tall and wearing a black hoodie, he even attacked Eileen’s dog, throwing it against the wall.

A social media campaign by Eileen’s granddaughter appealing for help catching the man responsible for the attack has so far been shared over 80,000 times on Facebook with people from all over the world commenting and offering support.

The attack happened on Castleton Avenue in Stretford on February 3rd at around 3pm.
