Fresh appeal for information after pedestrian died in collision in Hyde
The family of 77-year-old Barry Hampsonde have re-issued a plea for information approaching the two month anniversary of his death.
Shortly after 10.20pm on Friday 16 October 2020, police were called to reports that an orange Ford Transit van had collided with a pedestrian at the entrance to the car park of The Harehill Tavern pub on Underwood Road in Hattersley.
77-year-old Barry Hampson was taken to hospital with serious head injuries but sadly, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he passed away the following day.
Barry's niece Julie Jones said: “I am appealing once again to anyone who may have seen the incident with my uncle outside the Harehill Tavern in Hattersley on the car park entrance, where Barry was hit by a van.
“We are still trying to put pieces together as to what happened on this sad night and as a family we are still trying to come to terms with this tragic event, which cost Barry his life and us a very important and well-loved loved family member.
“So we are asking for anybody that may have seen or heard anything to contact the police with any information. We would be truly thankful.”
Following the collision, a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing death by driving without due care and attention.
He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
