Police officer arrested over fatal crash in Bolton

The officer's being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

A police officer has been arrested on suspicion of causing the death of a man in Bolton by dangerous driving.

A 51 year old man died after being knocked off a motorbike on Blackburn Road in Egerton, at around 4pm on Tuesday afternoon (30th January).

Earlier today, a man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

He is a police officer currently serving with Greater Manchester Police driving a private vehicle.

The case has been referred to the police watchdog, the IOPC.

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident - or may have dashcam, CCTV or mobile footage from the area at the time of the incident - to share it with officers to assist their enquiries.
