José says it wasn't his fault

José Mourinho has revealed the reason why Ryan Giggs left Manchester United saying that the former player wanted his job.

Giggs announced he was leaving on Saturday after 29 years with the club to pursue a managerial role.

It’s rumoured the 42-year-old was disappointed as he’d already been promised the job as the United boss before Mourinho.

Mourinho, who joined the club last month, gave his first press conference as boss and said that Giggs had been offered 'important jobs' at the club, just not the one that he had wanted.

"It’s not my responsbility that Ryan is not in the club. The job Ryan wanted is the job that the club decided to give me. It’s not my fault. 29 years is not 29 days, so he was brave, good luck!"

The former Chelsea manager added that it is a ‘great honour’ to have replaced Louis van Gaal.

He added “I know the history of this club, I know what the fans expect from me and it comes at the right moment in my career when I feel very prepared.”

Giggs made his debut in 1991 and holds the club record for the most competitive appearances, a huge 963 times. He became the assistant manager for United in 2014.

Many took to social media to pay tribute to the star when he announced he would be leaving.

Meanwhile Mourinho is already planning to change up the club, saying he wants to make four summer signings with two already confirmed.
