Manchester’s motorway users could face five years of delays as new plans for £1.5 billion redevelopment have been unveiled today.

Highways England say the new 80 miles of smart motorways will help lessen travelling times for drivers but there’s going to be more traffic and delays while they’re being built.

Work’s set to begin on seven new smart motorway projects by 2020 which is in addition to work already being carried out on the M62 and M60.

The redevelopment is part of the government’s plans to bring the North close together in its bid to rival London as an economic power.
