A new report has revealed that Manchester’s music scene brings 697,000 people to the city each year generating around £1.9 million to Manchester’s economy.

The new report, Wish You Were Here 2016, has brought to light that last year there were as many as 1.9 million people attending various music events across Manchester. The report also shows that this generated a massive £140 million for the economy in the local areas and creates employment by generating 1,583 jobs.

Jo Dipple, UK Music Chief Executive noted:

“What this report shows, unequivocally, is the economic value of live music to communities, cities and regions.”

Manchester’s music scene has been valuable both culturally and economically to the ever thriving city of Manchester, keeping people happy across the north west for years and allowing it to flourish financially and, with recent events such as Parklife, this trend seems to be continuing.

Jeff Smith MP for Manchester Withington commented:

“Live music is a source of great enjoyment, but also a source of jobs, growth and investment. As a former DJ and events promoter, I’m particularly pleased to see UK Music’s latest report recognising the huge impact of the live music industry on our economy and our livelihoods”

Manchester’s music history is rich, with big names from all over the world having preformed in the city and it seems that it will carry on finding itself in the music history books.
