With Parklife festival, Soccer Aid, Taylor Swift concerts and Tyson Fury’s boxing match taking place over just three days, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have urged commuters to plan their travel ahead of time.

TfGM will be implementing measures to help make travelling easier for those making their journeys this weekend.

There will be local road closures and disruptions to regular bus routes, however additional Metrolink services are planned.

TfGM’s Events Manager Ryan Carter said:

“We are expecting significant numbers of people to use public transport, so it’s important that people plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.

“Additional trams will run and we have worked closely with event organisers and transport operators to ensure that everyone gets to their destination as quickly as possible.”

Over 80,000 fans are expected to attend Heaton Park for Parklife to see the likes of The XX, Skepta, and world-famous Mancunian Liam Gallagher.

Carter says additional measures have been put in place to make travelling to and from the event easier:

“We have coordinated with Parklife organisers to run a dedicated shuttle bus service from Aytoun Street in Manchester city centre to the festival site, and back again after it finishes.

“We’ll be monitoring the transport networks from our 24 hour Control Centre and I’d encourage people to keep an eye on our website and Twitter account for the latest travel information and advice.”

Taylor Swift is kicking off the UK leg of her world tour at the Etihad stadium this Friday and Saturday, while Mancunian former heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury is making his return to the boxing ring on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena.

The weekend will be rounded off with Soccer Aid as celebrities from football, music, film and TV will compete in a football match of England vs the World XIs, with Robbie Williams and Usain Bolt leading the game in aid of charity.
