Murder investigation launched after body found in Ancoats flat

Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman was found dead inside a flat in Ancoats.

They were initially called to Swan Street shortly after 7.40am to reports that a man had jumped from a second storey flat window before attacking a number of people on the street below.

North West Ambulance Service told us one person had been taken to Salford Royal Hospital but weren't able to offer any more information relating to their injuries.

Witnesses reported seeing blood on the window and when police gained entry to the flat they found a woman's body.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning.

There are several road closures in place including Swan Street and people are being asked to avoid the area.

Superintendent Chris Hill, of GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “We are currently working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding what has happened this morning and the woman’s death.

“Her death is currently being treated as suspicious and we have a team of officers working at the scene.

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation however I would urge anyone with any information to please get in touch.”
