Rio Ferdinand's given KEY103's Mission Christmas appeal a huge boost by donating half a million pounds worth of toys.

The former United captain's throwing his weight behind our Charity 'Cash for Kids' as we aim to make sure at least 60 thousand children living in poverty wake up with a present on Christmas Day.

KEY103 Breakfast show host Mike Toolan called Rio after he tweeted the following:

Key103's Charity Manager Russell Feingold said,

"We are totally overwhelmed by Rio's amazing contribution. This is going to help so many young children. We now need everyone to keep supporting the campaign - the more children we can help, the more lives we can brighten up this Christmas."

In 2015 we raised over £2 million in gifts and cash and supported over 51,500 local children. In partnership with UKFast, B&M, MID Communications, Optegra and Bathroom Takeaway we want to do even more this year.

We're asking you to buy an extra present that we can give to a disadvantaged local child to make their Christmas morning special. We need new and unwrapped gifts suitable for children and young people aged 0-18 years, and you can donate at our drop-off points across the region!
