Two police officers are being praised for helping to save the life a newborn baby who had stopped breathing in Bolton.

Isaac's parents frantically flagged down the officers at a set of traffic lights in the early hours of the morning when the six-day-old started choking.

The couple had been waiting for an ambulance when they spotted the police car.

Isaac’s father performed CPR and managed to stabilise his son.

PC Kieran Sweeny and PC Claire Slater were then able to administer more first aid and rush the baby to hospital in their patrol car.

Hospital staff were there to meet them on arrival and administer further medical care.

Superintendent Rick Jackson of GMP’s Bolton borough said: “I have no doubt that the swift action of the two officers played a major role in saving the life of the newborn baby that day.

“Without their quick response this story could have had a very different ending so they should be immensely proud of themselves.

“I am also delighted that Isaac is now recovering safe and well. “

Isaac’s parents, Karin and Shane said: “We are so grateful that the officers were there and we cannot thank them enough for what they did. We cannot imagine what could of happened if they didn’t get us to the hospital so fast."
