WATCH: Spice Girls' first TV appearance was for a Key 103 interview

It's been 20 years since 'Wannabe' was released.

Twenty years ago today (8th July) 'Wannabe' was released and to celebrate we thought share this great video of the Spice Girls' first TV appearance.

In 1996 the little known group were at Key 103 to be interviewed by a girl taking part in Cilla Black's TV show Surprise Surprise.

Local girl Sally was a big fan of the station and had won the opportunity to present a show and meet presenter Steve Penk.

As part of her day at Key 103 she also had the opportunity to interview the Spice Girls who were due to release their debut song 'Wannabe'.

At 3mins 23secs in the video you can see the five girls gathered in the radio studio introducing themselves to Sally who asks them why they are called Spice Girls to which Mel B responds,

'we're five completely different people here with different personalities, therefore we're going to wear different clothes.'

She goes on to say how that having different personalities doesn't mean they can't all get on.

'Wannabe' went on to be number one around the world and spent seven weeks at the top of the UK chart.

Recently the 'Wannabe' video has been remade with international female stars to raise awareness of how women are disproportionately affected by many challenges around the world.

To coincide with the 20th anniversary of 'Wannabe' three of the Spice Girls have announced they will be returning under the moniker GEM.
