Police are appealing for information after a man died following a road traffic collision in Northumberland.

Officers received a report at around 1.20pm yesterday (Friday 26th April) of a two-vehicle collision on the southbound carriageway of the A68 close to Bingfield.

It was reported that, for reasons yet to be established, a Mini Clubman car had collided with a heavy goods vehicle.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the Mini – a man aged 57 – was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His family are being supported by specially-trained officers.

The driver of the heavy goods vehicle remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries.

An investigation has been launched and officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the moments leading up to the collision to contact them.

Inspector Sarah Munnelly, of Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said:

“All of our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the man who has sadly passed away.

“This is an incredibly tragic incident and we will continue to support them in any way we can.

“An investigation has now been launched, and we are determined to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision and the events leading to it.

“I urge members of the public who have information about the collision – no matter how small or insignificant they feel it may be – to contact us as soon as they can.”

Witnesses should use the ‘Report’ page of the Northumbria Police website or call 101, quoting log number NP-20240426-0519.
