A man has been taken to hospital after a house fire in York.

At 4.13am this morning (29th October), North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue crews from York and Acomb attended a terraced property in the Tang Hall area of the city.

One male was rescued via a first floor window, and taken to hospital via road ambulance suffering from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, thermal imaging camera, smoke hood, triple extension ladder, lighting and IEC pack to extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the fire was determined as a faulty electrical cable feeding a kitchen appliance.
