Samaritans of Scarborough are appealing for help to enable them to support those who are in distress over Christmas.

They say their charity shop has been closed again over the latest lockdown period, and this is where the majority of their funds are raised from sales.

Libby Gilbert, Director at the Scarborough branch shared why it's so important to make sure there's someone there to listen especially with the festive season approaching...

"Loneliness, isolation and people's mental health can really hit home at this time of year and this might be heightened with the repercussions of the pandemic."

"We can't go out and see the public and raise awareness face to face, our shop has been closed again over this second lockdown period, so any donations are very, very welcome, especially at this time"

"£5 could answer a call for help that could save a life and £10 could answer two calls for help this Christmas.

"Every call for help is answered by a trained volunteer and talking to us is always free and confidential. Samaritans has never before been a more vital lifeline. If you can make a donation to support our work, you'll be helping to ensure that we can continue to be there 24/7"
