Organisers of this year's Scalby Fair say they are expecting it to be the biggest and best yet.

A week's worth of entertainment takes place from tomorrow (Sunday 12th June) and the theme this year is The Queen.

Organiser, Michael Whiteley, said: "The Scalby Walk, we were nearly double the numbers from 2019 and everyone had a great time. I just think there's that energy and enthusiasm to come out to local events and find out what's happening. It's just a feel good event, most of the things are free and I've just been looking at the weather forecast this morning and fingers crossed, it's looking pretty good.

"It takes a lot of planning though. We've been working since January to put all of these things together. The stalls have been really popular and at the moment, one of our biggest jobs is turning away people that want to have a stall because they haven't booked in time. As a committee, we'll see if we can have more stalls next year, go further out into the village and make it bigger and better than ever.

"I think it just captures the imagination. It's well known now and it's in people's diaries. Visitors that are coming and come to Scarborough regularly they know Scalby Fair is on and some of them will come around this time because it's something they really enjoy doing. It's a bit old fashioned in a way but I think people really enjoy it.

"People are meeting people they don't meet all the time, catching up etc and there's more than the stalls. We have prizes for the best dressed stall and you just see people smiling, meeting people, having a drink, something to eat and that's what the Fair is all about.

"This year we've looked at it and said 'how can we make it bigger and better?' So the runs we've moved from the Monday night to the Sunday and we've got a lot more interest, so we're expecting that to be a bigger event. The folk night is new and we've got eight artists booked. We're pushing ourselves and we start from January planning all of this. It doesn't just come together in the last couple of weeks."
