It comes from the Road Haulage Association

There’s concern over places for lorry drivers to stop on main roads in Oxfordshire.

The Road Haulage Association say Government investment for truck stop facilities doesn’t go far enough leaving plenty of worrying issues.

Rhys Williams is Oxfordshire’s Regional Operations Manager with the organisation:

"Roadside facilities here are woeful.

"We've got services on the M40 at Oxford and at Cherwell Valley, but nothing below that until you get down to Chieveley."

He goes to say that they do welcome a £16.5 million pounds investment plan from the Department for Transport, but that he fears it won't go far enough.

Rhys warns that developers may be put off from installing facilities where needed because of planning regulation:

"There's more work needed in simplifying the procedure. Operators can be put off from putting truly dedicated HGV facilities on key routes.

"As for the A34 there's a distant lack of amenities with Peartree Services not open to HGVs."

He goes on to say that they're concerned for the profession and for the safety of lorry drivers' loads following a number of reported criminal incidents around the country.
