A big screen cinema with a difference is coming to Poole - with the movies powered by pedalling.

On Friday 2nd September, the Dolphin Centre is hosting a free sustainable, back-to-school cinema event to raise money for charity.

Powered by four pedal bikes, the Big Green Screen allows the public to enjoy two family-friendly films while being eco-friendly.

The bicycle-powered cinema is a clean, efficient and sustainable way to enjoy your favourite films.

Disney’s Moana will be shown at 11.00am and iconic Grease at 2.00pm.

The Dolphin Centre’s management team will take turns to power the films throughout the day as part of their annual “ONE GREAT DAY” fundraising event.

It's to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, and University Hospitals Dorset.

John Grinnell, Centre Manager at The Dolphin Centre, said:

“We’re incredibly conscious of our carbon footprint at the centre and work hard to ensure that we are as sustainable as possible. We want to host a fun event for families to enjoy, with an educational twist, before the kids go back to school!

“Our aim is that the addition of the pedal bikes can help teach our community about sustainable living. Having generated our own energy, we hope that the public will be encouraged to think about their energy consumption and, hopefully make a small step towards reducing their own carbon footprint going forward.”

In 2021, six team members from the Dolphin Centre in Poole took part in an extensive 16.4-mile beach clean on 15th October in partnership with One Great Day.

Throughout 2022, the team at the Dolphin Centre has curated a line-up of community focused events tackling topics such as mental health and well-being, inclusivity, and sustainability.
