Sheffield Hallam Uni sports & business expert: 'Be wary' of ticket scammers this summer
Professor Rob Wilson has been speaking to us about the underground ticket market and how to avoid it
Ahead of a busy summer of live sport & music events across South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire - there's a call for people to 'be extra careful' when buying 'last minute tickets' this year.
It's as high demand in the re-sale market can often lead to fans buying fake tickets off unverified sources.
Professor Rob Wilson is a sports & business expert from Sheffield Hallam University.
He's urging us to always choose a reliable & secure re-sale platform for second hand tickets:
"Use the right provider and make sure if you're acquiring a ticket, that it's coming from a reputable source.
"Don't buy a ticket from the dodgy person on the street corner, that's probably charging too much, and more than likely will be giving you a flimsy ticket, which won't work.
"I'd like to see a much better opportunity for UK residents to be able to buy tickets through the secondary market, so they don't have to rely on the black market and fraudulent tickets which are in circulation."
"Also, you might buy tickets to an event down the line, and as you get closer to it you may not be able to attend it anymore.
"Without a reputable, re-sale avenue, you might end up significantly out of pocket as a consumer."
Recent data has shown a significant increase in ticket scams recently, particularly affecting young adults - with victims losing an average of £154 per incident - which primarily affects young adults aged 18 to 24.
