Two men have been found guilty of killing another man from Barnsley who was assaulted with garden shears following an argument over a box of tablets.

Witnesses said Daniel Cheetham, 26, and Liam Shaw, 25, took it in turns to hurt 35-year-old Carl Dixon, who was found with multiple stab wounds in September 2023.

During a three week trial, the court heard how the three had met up at a friends, before the argument broke out.

Cheetham grabbed a pair of garden shears and assaulted Dixon with them - leaving him slumped on the stairs.

Both Cheetham and Shaw then fled the property, before police and paramedics arrive.

Cheetham, of Underwood Avenue in Worsborough was found guilty of murder and assault.

Shaw, of no fixed address, was found guilty of manslaughter.

Detective Supt Etheridge continued: “The jury has seen through the lies of Cheetham and the fact that he was the one who intended to cause Carl significant harm, with Shaw following his actions, rather than stopping him.

“I hope Carl’s family and friends can end this chapter of their lives and remember and share memories of Carl for the much-loved brother and uncle he was.”

Both men will be sentenced on March 28.
