City ended their Champions’ League group campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Celtic.

Both teams already knew where they would finish, City in 2nd place in the group and Celtic last.

Nigerian Kelechi Iheanacho stepped up to the plate to replace banned striker Sergio Aguero and scored the equaliser at the Ethiad.

All eyes were on the 20-year-old who delivered a good performance undoubtedly knowing that he had to be on good form, saying before the match, “It’s a big opportunity for me now. I have to take responsibility and fill the gap.”

The points on offer, obviously motivated the young player as he said, “I need to work really hard to prove myself to the team and help the team get these points we need in the Premier League.''

City manager Pep Guardiola and fellow teammates also realised the importance of Iheanacho’s presence on the night, with him being included in the starting line-up.

Pablo Zabaleta said after the game, “He played well… The manager will probably need him more than ever. It is important for him to take that chance.''

City face Premier League Champions Leicester on Saturday where they need to win to get 3 points to stay in the race for the title.
