Ipswich Town are through to the second round of the Carabao Cup after seeing off Bristol Rovers at Portman Road last night.

Jack Taylor got Town up-and-running with a goal on his debut in the 12th minute, before Sone Aluko doubled the advantage on 76 to book the Blues’ spot in round two.

They'll now face Reading away in round two of the cup.

The game will be played week-beginning 28 August.

Assistant Manager Martyn Pert was pleased with the night's performance: "It was good for the team to keep a clean sheet and get into the next round.

"It was good for the team to keep a clean sheet and get into the next round...

"The performance was, at times, very good.

"I liked the moves for the goals and there was a good clean finish from Tayls (Jack Taylor) for the first.

"There was good movement from Hirsty (George Hirst) for the second and another calm finish into the bottom corner.

"The pitch played well and it was nice to be back at Portman Road. The surface is fast and we can expect to see some good play on it.

"It was nice to see Slicks (Cieran Slicker) get a clean sheet on his debut as well."
